在這里學什么?With a specialisation in Urban & Regional Planning, this degree will differentiate you as a highly qualified graduate who is eligible, subject to professional experience requirements, for corporate membership of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA). The program aims to introduce you to contemporary planning theories and debates while instilling professional expertise in key areas of planning practice. Developed in consultation with industry and the Planning Institute of Australia, the study of Urbanism is a pathway to specialisation as a professional urban planner, urban designer, heritage architect or consultant. This postgraduate program has been developed to address the urgent need for specialists in the planning, development and architectural industries that understand the complex interrelationships between the various aspects of environmental planning and can work at the apex of local and international urban design.
The sustainable management of our cities and regions is one of the most pressing issues in the 21st century. Urban and regional planners are at the forefront of this challenge: working in government and the private sector to guide urban and regional change and to manage the social, environmental and economic impacts of development. Urban and regional planners prepare plans and policies at a range of levels including national, state, regional, local, precinct and site, with specialist planners working in urban design, heritage conservation and housing policy. You will engage in an integrative set of core units, introducing key concepts that reach across a diverse range of factors affecting the planning, policy-making and urbanisation of our future cities.
Graduate opportunities
The Urbanism (Urban & Regional Planning) Program provides the required knowledge and skills for professional planning practice within Australia. Graduates follow careers in a wide range of areas, including urban development; strategic and metropolitan planning; environmental planning and assessment; land-use, transportation and infrastructure planning; planning for housing, health, educational and recreational facilities; community and regional development; and statutory planning. Planners work in a variety of roles, including policy analysis and implementation, consultation and public participation, besides preparing and administering planning instruments. Both the private and public sectors provide extensive career opportunities. Planners are employed by international organisations, all levels of government in Australia, and by a wide range of agencies. Private sector employment is primarily with developers and consultants. There are presently many career opportunities throughout Australia and overseas.
