Whether you want to learn a new language or study a new culture, explore great books, ideas or minds, discover the past, analyse the present or consider the shape of the world's future, the Bachelor of Arts will expand your horizons and challenge you to think outside the box.

Offering broad choice across more than 45 subject areas in the humanities and social sciences, no two arts degrees are quite the same. You will study a major and a minor, choosing both from our broad choice across the humanities and social sciences, or selecting your minor from the University's shared pool.

Whatever your focus, when you undertake our Bachelor of Arts degree you will be guided by the expertise of an internationally respected group of educators. Celebrating its 100th year in 2017, the University's Department of Japanese Studies is one of the oldest of its kind in the English-speaking world. Offering training in the Japanese language, as well as in Japanese culture, this major prepares you to be an active participant in our multicultural world.

With a large network of partner universities in Japan, you will have the opportunity to undertake an unforgettable in-country exchange program experience, further honing your language and cultural skills.

Culture units use Japanese materials to present various aspects of ancient to contemporary Japan ranging across disciplines from history and literature to popular culture.

Even if you have no previous knowledge of the language, you will gain basic literacy in Japanese and the ability to express yourself in everyday situations. If you finish your major at the highest level, you will graduate with quite a fluent proficiency of the language.

English Language Requirements: IELTS overall score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0; TOEFL Paper based score of 565; TOEFL IBT: 85; PTE Academic score of 61; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): 58; Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE): 45; Cambridge English scale: CAE and CPE: 176.
